The August 2006 issue of the prestigious journal Nature features the article “Infrared absorption spectroscopy of a single polyatomic molecular ion”, co-authored by Prof. Michał Tomza from the University of Warsaw. In this work, researchers demonstrated for the first time non-destructive absorption spectroscopy of a single polyatomic molecular ion, achieving sensitivity sufficient to detect the absorption of a single photon.
The study employed CaOH⁺ molecular ions and advanced quantum physics techniques to observe molecular vibrations with unprecedented precision. The newly developed method may find applications in precision spectroscopy, quantum chemistry, and future quantum technologies.
It is worth highlighting that, in the acknowledgements section, the authors recognize the support of the PLGrid infrastructure and the computational resources provided by ACC Cyfronet AGH, which were used during the course of the research.
We congratulate Prof. Michał Tomza and his co-authors on another outstanding publication in Nature!
