The Academic Computer Centre Cyfronet AGH has joined the group of beneficiaries of the 8th INFOSTRATEG program competition, implemented by the National Centre for Research and Development in cooperation with the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. The project "Intelligent Platform for Monitoring, Analysis, and Prediction of Tourist Traffic in Poland (MAPTur)", in which Cyfronet AGH participates as a key partner, has received co-financing of nearly PLN 30 million.
AI for modern tourism
The goal of the MAPTur project is to create an advanced platform using AI to monitor, analyze, and forecast tourist traffic in Poland. The solution is intended to support public administration, the private sector, and residents in the effective and sustainable management of tourism by delivering knowledge based on current and precise data.
The project is implemented by a consortium consisting of the University of Warsaw (ICM UW) and the AGH University of Krakow (ACC Cyfronet AGH). Its structure assumes phased development, from data integration and processing, through modeling tourist behaviors, to delivering a tool ready for practical use.
Role of ACC Cyfronet AGH
In the project, we are primarily responsible for developing and training artificial intelligence models for forecasting tourist traffic. This is a key component of the entire solution, allowing a transition from the analysis of historical data to creating credible scenarios of future tourist behaviors. On behalf of ACC Cyfronet AGH, a team of three specialists will be involved in the project implementation, additionally supported by experts in fields such as cybersecurity. This will ensure not only high quality of the models but also an appropriate level of security and efficiency of the created system. The total value of the project co-financing is nearly PLN 30 million, of which over PLN 4.29 million is allocated to Cyfronet. This will allow us to leverage our experience in the field of advanced computing and artificial intelligence for the development of modern tourism in Poland.
- emphasizes Joanna Kocot, project manager on behalf of ACC Cyfronet AGH.
Innovative approach to tourist data
MAPTur addresses key challenges in the tourism sector, such as data fragmentation, low spatial resolution, and the lack of tools for comprehensive forecasting of phenomena in time and space. The system will integrate various sources of information, creating a so-called digital twin of tourist traffic in Poland. Thanks to this, it will be possible to:
- monitor tourist traffic in near real-time,
- identify trends and patterns in tourist behaviors,
- forecast future load on regions,
- support investment and planning decisions.
The results of the MAPTur platform will find broad application in both the public and commercial sectors.
The results of the 8th INFOSTRATEG program competition have been published on the NCBiR website. A report from the ceremonial signing of agreements in the competition is also available.
