How to get to Krakow

You can reach Krakow by:

DIRECT FLIGHT TO KRAKOW

The International Airport Krakow-Balice offers many convenient airline connections with major destinations, such as: Amsterdam, Berlin, Bologna, Birmingham, Bristol, Brussels, Chicago, Dortmund, Dublin, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Milan, Munich, New York, Oslo, Paris, Prague, Rome, Tel Aviv, Vienna and Warsaw (see current timetable; the Airport Information: +48 12 295-58-00).

The airport is located about 11 km from the city centre. You can reach it by:

  • a taxi ( 06:00-22:00 – approxim. 70 PLN, i.e. about 20 Euro; holiday, Sunday or 22:00-06:00 – approxim. 110 PLN)
  • public bus number: 208, 252 or night line 902. It takes about 35/40 mins to get to the city centre.
    Tickets (4 PLN each) can be purchased from:
     – RELAY newsagent located in terminal (western part)
    – the ticket machine at the eastern part of the passenger terminal (level 0),
    – the ticket machine at the bus stop (payment in cash or with credit/debit card),
    – ticket machines in the buses (payment in cash – coins only),
    – the bus driver, in case of lack or failure of ticket machine (single tickets only, payment in cash - the exact amount of money).
  • train
    The new Kraków Airport train station is located near the passenger terminal, at the rear of the multi-storey car park. Each train is equipped with air conditioning, power outlets, Wi-Fi and ticket machines. All trains are operating 7 days a week. Check the timetable...

INTERNATIONAL TRAIN OR BUS

It is also possible to reach Krakow by an international train or bus. There is a lot of direct connections from different European cities, such as: Berlin, Leipzig, Prague, Budapest, Bucharest, Bratislava, Kosice, Lviv, Kiev and Odessa.

The main Railway Station and Bus Station in Krakow ("KRAKOW GLOWNY") is situated nearby the old town (it is only 10 minute walk away).

FLIGHT TO WARSAW

To reach Krakow from the international airport Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport you can:

  • take domestic flights (departure from Warsaw to Krakow)
  • take a train
    • There are many trains (Inter City and Express) from Warsaw to Krakow and from Krakow to Warsaw daily, see the train timetable.

      The Central Railway Station in Warsaw is located about 10 km from the airport. We recommend you to take Airport City bus (avoid taxis in Warsaw – they are very expensive for a foreigner).



    Visas

    Poland is a member state of the European Union. Citizens of some non-EU countries may need a visa. Relevant information can be found at the web site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. A letter of invitation can be provided upon request.



    Currency exchange

    The Polish obligatory currency is the Polish zloty (abbreviation: zl). It's international code is PLN.
    1 zloty = 100 groszy (abbreviation: gr). Coins are: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 gr, and 1, 2, 5 zl. There are also 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 banknotes (see Banknotes and coins).

    Foreign currency can be exchanged at the airports, hotel receptions and banks and in many small exchange offices called "kantor" located all around the city centre. The currency exchange rates are given by the daily newspapers, internet portals and banks (see the web page of The National Bank of Poland – available in Polish and English).

    International credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, Eurocard) are accepted in a majority of hotels, in many shops and restaurants, and can be used in most cash machines ("bankomat").
